In 2013, a local Boston nonprofit was lacking resources to fulfill it’s mission of youth education. With the tragedy of the Boston Marathon still fresh on the minds of seven close friends, they thought about how to help this nonprofit while also expressing solidarity with their fellow citizens. While breaking their fast during a night in Ramadan, it occurred to them that they could capture the spirit of the month by building community, promoting charitable giving and helping those in need. Combined with the age old Boston tradition of running, Fasting5k was born.
Since then, F5k has helped nonprofits and communities across the country and abroad to further their missions of youth development. From education, poverty & homelessness to mental health, Fasting5k has raised over $500,000 through grassroots volunteer efforts to support youth focused community projects and global communities abroad.
