Boston is the city where the Fasting 5K was born, and the team continues to grow in size and every year.
This year, funds raised in Boston will benefit Islamic Circle of North America Relief USA (ICNA Relief). ICNA Relief is a multicultural human development and community building faith-based organization whose purpose is to address the basic human and social service needs of underserved communities within the U.S.
ICNA Relief Boston has nearly completed building the Amal Women’s Center, a transitional housing facility for women who are victims of domestic violence. This initiative will change lives and give hope to women who are facing the biggest challenges of their lives. The center will provide sleeping accommodations for women and children, meals, case management, career exploration and educational support, long term affordable housing search, access to services, spiritual care and personal development, holistic healing and arts, and a community food pantry.
Currently the basement of the Amal Women’s Center is under construction and will be the future home of a counseling room. In addition to Counseling Services, the Amal Women’s Center will be organizing domestic violence and substance abuse support groups. Fasting 5K donations will go towards counseling services.
